A hush descended on Croke Park convention centre when the giant screen flashed up the
medal winners in the 2024 National Tidy Town Competition. Over 600 attendees representing
some 904 Tidy Town entrants from all over the country checked frantically to see how they had
fared. Included in their midst of course were the small band of intrepid volunteers from
Dromiskin Tidy Towns who were hoping to maintain their silver medal award obtained for the
first time in 2023. Joy was unconfined when we realised that history had been made and our
small village was now the proud holder of a prestigious gold medal - one of 75 awarded
nationally and one of four in County Louth along with Dundalk, Drogheda and Blackrock. In
addition Dromiskin was second in the county supplanting, for the first time ever, the mighty
Tallanstown, a standard bearer in Louth for many years.
Congratulations to our neighbours Blackrock who as well as scooping best-in-county were the
winners of Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town repeating their success in 2019 and finishing just one
mark behind overall winner Ballincollig, Co.Cork.
The event took place on Friday 1st November. MC was Marty Morrissey and the prizes were
presented by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphries, along with
managing director of sponsor, Super Valu, Luke Hanlon. Also featured was presenter of RTE’s
Nationwide, Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh.

Tidiest Small Town: Blackrock, Co.Louth
Tidiest Large Town: Westport, Co. Mayo
Tidiest Large Urban Centre: Ballincollig, Co. Cork
