What a great turnout for our first National Spring Clean event which was a joint initiative with St Peter’s NS. Pupils from 5th and 6th Class gave up an hour of their time on Wednesday evening and, with two adult supervisors per team, broke into four teams to do a litter blitz on roads leading to the village centre. The young litter patrollers were shocked at the amount of cigarette butts and alcohol related litter collected but did a great job filling many bags and leaving roadside verges litter free. Thank you to Ms Lynch and to the senior class teachers for all their help and enthusiasm.

While the development of Ginnety’s Pond Nature Park is a work in progress this amenity has already proved to be one of the most popular projects we have undertaken. With land donated by the Hand family and funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme and permission from the Parish we were able to create a fully accessible entrance to the site from the Church car park and develop the walkways around the pond. Tree planting has taken place, wonderful spring planting undertaken, ducks welcomed in partnership with Darver Dromiskin Gun Club and a Duck House provided. More projects coming very soon!

What an honour to be nominated to compete in Ireland’s Best Kept Towns Awards! This competition is an all-island initiative organised jointly by the Tidy Towns Unit of the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Northern Ireland Amenity Council and participation is based on performance in the SuperValu National Tidy Towns Competition or the Northern Ireland Amenity Council’s Best Kept Awards in the previous year. Adjudication takes place during the month of May and we’re busily working away to have our village looking its best. We do, however, need everyone to play their part to ensure that we perform well in the following adjudication categories.
